DDC Resolution Calling for Ceasefire in Israel-Hamas Conflict

At our November 8 meeting, the Dearborn Democratic Club’s Executive Board approved a resolution calling for an indefinite ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The language of the resolution appears below:

Whereas the Dearborn Democratic Club supports human rights for all throughout the world, regardless of whether conflicts exist.

Whereas the horrific attack on Israel and the taking of hostages by Hamas has prompted a retaliatory attack on Hamas by bombing and invading Gaza without regard for civilian casualties or the lives of hostages.

Whereas the Israeli government has made life for Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza similar to apartheid conditions with no indication of a fair solution that honors the rights and lives of all individuals.

Whereas the innocent human casualties since the initial attack have resulted in a humanitarian crisis in all of Gaza, with continuing loss of civilian lives including women and children.

Whereas the Israeli government and its army have made it virtually impossible for humanitarian aid to be delivered in the way of food, water, and medicine to the Gaza region.

Be it resolved that the Dearborn Democratic Club implores Israel and Hamas to commit and engage in an indefinite ceasefire with the safe release of the Israeli hostages, to prevent the loss of innocent lives and to allow international aid to reach those people of the region who are so wrongly impacted.

Be it further resolved that the Dearborn Democratic Club supports a two-state solution in the hopes of avoiding future conflicts and the promotion of peace, civil rights, and human rights in the entire region.
